About The Author
Toi McMullen is a free spirited Texas native.
She has a genuine love for life and firmly believes in loving yourself and the freedom of self expression; to be who you are without excuses, filters, or apologies.
I started writing this book in 2010. Yea, I know that was a long ass time ago but I basically babysat it. I would start and then stop and once I was happy with it I became unhappy with it. Really, I was scared to let the world read it even though I wanted it to be read…if that makes any sense. It is like a child to me. I’ve watched it grow from just an idea to a couple of pages and now a novel.
Publishing it is almost like I’m sending it to college…well without the student loans! I’ve coddled it long enough though so it’s time to send it out into the world. It really feels surreal to say that I wrote a book. I can’t take all the credit for it though. My sister Candace came up with the title because for the life of me I couldn’t think of one. So, thank you for that sis! Precious; my cousin, was kind enough to do the editing for me. She also told me to keep writing when it was just a short story only thirty pages long.
There were so many times I wanted to just give up writing this book because I didn’t think it was interesting enough, but she coached me through it beginning to end so thank you so much Precious!!! To all my wonderful friends and other family members thank you so much for your support. It means the world to me. I wish my grandmother was alive to see that I finally decided to put my imagination to use.

The book cover to Miami Lust, is deeper than just three silhouettes inside of a rose. It’s very dear to me because my friend Tommy whom I knew as “Charlie” drew it for me. He was a very talented artist and I told him that I wanted him to illustrate all my book covers for me. He can no longer do that though because he was taken from this world by a drunk driver who ran a red light. The driver didn’t even bother checking to see if he was alright and just fled from the scene on foot. My heart and soul are forever crushed. My spirit doesn’t hold the same light it once held. Death and life go hand and hand but it’s a different kind of pain whenever it is brought on by the careless acts of man.
If you’ve never met a selfless person before, Charlie was just that. He would go out of his way to help other people without hesitation. He didn’t even have to know them. He once told me; no matter how bad my day is I should find something that makes me smile. He made me smile and will be missed by so many. Think before you drive drunk. You can ruin more than just your life.
Rest in Peace dear friend…I love you and will never forget you.
